Introduction to Shamanism Class
What is Shamanism?
Shamanism is generally regarded as the first spiritual practice of humans dating back 30,000 – 40,000 years, maybe longer. It has been practiced on every continent, in almost every culture, without those cultures having any contact with each other. 99 % of your ancestors, throughout human history have practiced shamanism. It is a spiritual path that is about living in harmony with the Earth, and its fellow inhabitants, but also receiving spiritual help and information.
The word “shaman” comes from the Evenki people of Siberia/Mongolia. It means “one who sees in the dark,” or “healer.” In indigenous cultures, a shaman is the medicine man or woman of the tribe, who uses different techniques and ceremonies to help individuals in the tribe, and the tribe as a whole.
All hunter/gatherer tribes practiced shamanism, and it is still practiced in indigenous cultures today.
It is unique, in that people all over the world have the same core practices, without those people having any contact with each other.
Shamanism is a way of Being, not a book of knowledge.
